Tara’s story, recounted by her mother Joanie, offers a heart-breaking chronicle of events leading up to Tara’s death on 9th February 2021. Joanie shared her story with this project in the hope that her passionate plea to health professionals would be heard. In the video, Joanie urges health professionals to take the kind of chronic underlying conditions that Tara suffered much more seriously before administering the covid-19 vaccine. She firmly believes that Tara’s death could have been prevented had she been more carefully monitored. We are immensely grateful to Joanie, Tara’s mother and Manoah her brother and Leonie her sister in law as well as her friends for sharing Tara’s story. In order to ensure that Joanie’s testimony is heard and acted upon, our project collaborated closely with the Arts in Health project that uses digital storytelling to communicate patients’ experiences and promote change for the better. The video has now been shared with Tara’s GP and the hospital in which she died. The hospital has responded and invited the family to a meeting to discuss the events. As the family are still grieving, they are unable to attend the meeting for now. We hope to report back in due course, with further outcomes.
